Coimbatore: The Karamadai police, investigating the brutal murder of D. Ramya (24), said she was an assistant professor at Akshaya College of Engineering and Technology, at Kinathukadavu, on Pollachi Road. She had completed B.Tech and held a masters in Engineering.

After graduation, she joined as an assistant professor in the college in 2013. The police said Ramya’s mother D. Malathi (48) was a home-maker and her father Dharmaraj (50) works for Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited (TANGEDCO) at Kotagiri, in Nilgiris district.

Dharmaraj owns a house at Karamadai, about 35 km from Coimbatore, where his wife Malathi, his daughter Ramya and mother–in-law Rangammal (70) are residing.

On Monday, Dharmaraj left for Kothagiri as was his routine. Rangammal left for a relative’s house at Mettupalayam on Monday evening. On Tuesday morning, when Dharmaraj called his wife from Kotagiri, he did not get a response. Around 3 pm on Tuesday, he reached home at Karamadai and found his daughter dead in pool of a blood and his wife Malathi with severe injuries on the head.

He immediately informed the Karamadai police who rushed to the spot. The police said Malathi suffered grievous head injuries after the murderers smashed her head against the wall of the house. She was found unconscious in the house. The police admitted Malathi to the Coimbatore medical college and hospital for treatment.

Coimbatore range DIG Ayush Mani Tiwari, superintendent of police M. Sudhakar and a Karamadai police team rushed to the spot and held inquiries with the locals. Forensic experts officials are also gathering material evidence from the murder spot.

A sniffer dog was brought to the spot, but it ran from the house to a nearby area and did not find anything. SP Sudhakar said gold jewels were not stolen. There are no indications of rape. Detailed investigations are on, he said.

The police suspect Ramya could have had a feud with someone as deep stab injuries were found on her forehead. She was tortured during the murder, say police investigation officers.
The Coimbatore district police have formed three special teams to nab the person/s involved in the murder.
