New Delhi: What happens when a 14-year-old boy flees with a policeman’s AK-47 rifle?  A series of tragedies ensue.

The bizarre incident in Jammu on Friday evening left one man dead and another seriously injured.

According to a report in media, it all began when a Congress leader’s PSO, identified Badar Din, decided to visit his sister, also a constable.

In woman’s house worked a domestic help who had his eye on the constable’s AK-47. When the policeman went the toilet, the boy picked up the rifle, fled the house and got on a matador. He then hired an auto-rickshaw.

In the meantime, the constable, on finding his rifle missing, alerted his colleagues and asked them to stop the boy, said the report.

Back in the auto, when the driver saw the boy trying to hide a gun in his jacket and police chasing him, he got so scared he reportedly jumped out of the vehicle.

After the auto stopped, the boy too saw a police party chasing him. He ran towards a slum and barged into a hut to hide himself. There were children inside and their father protested. The boy then allegedly fired, injuring the man, a migrant labourer from MP. The 50-year-old later died in a hospital.

As police caught up with the boy, he allegedly opened fire at the police party too, injuring a constable.

The boy is reported to have thrown away the rifle and make another attempt to flee. But he was nabbed after a chase.

Police are said to be grilling the boy for any links to militants.
