Kota: A lawmaker of Rajasthan’s ruling BJP tells a senior doctor that he will kick him, slap him, cut off his hair and “skin him alive”, in a phone conversation that has gone viral on social media. The legislator, Prahlad Gunjal, has been suspended by the BJP.
“I got carried away,” Mr Gunjal told NDTV today but the clarification got him no reprieve. Union minister Venkaiah Naidu said in Delhi, “The MLA who used abusive language has been suspended from the party and has been asked to explain. This is unacceptable.”
In the phone call made earlier this week, Mr Gunjal allegedly threatened Dr RN Yadav, the Chief Medical Officer of Kota, for not stopping the transfer of a male nurse related to a BJP worker.
Throughout the conversation widely circulated on WhatsApp, Mr Gunjal is heard threatening to hit the doctor in various ways and even beat him to pulp. He also lets loose a string of expletives.
The lawmaker was apparently furious that his word didn’t count in restoring the job of the nurse, who was removed recently from a health centre over alleged irregularities in the purchase of medicines.
“I told you he is family. How dare you give me attitude? I will punch you. I want the order by tomorrow, or else… I hope you understand what I am trying to say. Listen carefully,” shouts the lawmaker. “My reputation has been ruined in front of party workers,” he rages.
Mr Gunjal has since given a written apology to the state BJP chief.
Dr Yadav, who was at the receiving end of his broadside, has filed a police complaint and wants legal action against the lawmaker. He resigned today along with two other doctors. More have threatened to quit if tough action is not taken against the lawmaker within 72 hours.
