Train mows down van at Hisar rail crossing, 12 killed

Rohtak: Twelve members of a family, including four children, were killed and three others injured at Barwala town of Hisar district when the TATA Ace vehicle in which they were travelling was hit by a train at an unmanned railway crossing on Monday.

The deceased were identified as Sanjeev (32), his wife Sunita (27), brother Vijay (29), his wife Anita (26), their son Kesav (3), neighbour Bajrang (31), his wife Kavita (26), their two sons Deepak(4) and Preetam (2), another neighbour Pooja (26) and Kiran (26) and a minor girl Pooja (2).

Three other minors — Anil, Navneet and Nitin— were injured and were admitted to the Hisar civil hospital.

All the deceased hailed from Balak village of Uklana town of Hisar district.

Police said that at around 9.30am, when the vehicle carrying 15 occupants reached the unmanned railway crossing at Sarsod village of Hisar district, it broke down on the tracks.

Meanwhile, a train coming from Dhuri (Punjab) hit the van, killing some occupants on the spot.

The occupants were headed towards Panghal village of Hisar district to participate in a religious function.

On receiving news of the incident, Hisar MLA Kamal Gupta and other administrative officials reached the spot to take stock of the situation.

The bodies were taken to the Hisar civil hospital for postmortem.

Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee chief Ashok Tanwar expressed grief over the untimely demise of 12 members of a family.
