Srinagar: One Jammu and Kashmir police official has been killed and three security personnel injured in a fierce gunfight with terrorists at Hardushoora in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
“One policeman has been martyred while a civilian has been injured in the operation so far,” the police official said.
Army sources said one soldier was also injured in the operation. The injured jawan, who received a bullet in the thigh, has been evacuated to Army’s 92 Base Hospital in Srinagar, they said.
Officials said that following specific information about the presence of a group of terrorists, a joint team of Army’s 29 Rashtriya Rifles and Jammu and Kashmir Police Special Operations Groups (SOG) Pattan launched a search and cordon operation at Hardushoora’s Sultanpora village on Thursday.
As soon as the joint team of forces intensified their search, the terrorists opened fire upon them. The forces retaliated resulting in heavy firing from both the sides.
Two terrorists are believed to be trapped in the area, officials said.
