Mumbai, September 30: A school going boy expired and nine others were injured after the compound wall of a civic-run school in Govandi collapsed on Tuesday afternoon, September 29th.

Chikhalwadi Municipal school no 3, Bainganwadi, Govandi has been vacant for the past few months and is under renovation. It was a vacant BMC school building. The school students were shifted to another close by BMC school since the last six months. The BMC had appointed a private contractor to renovate the building and the BMC officials prima facie found his negligence in the case.

“The school wall collapsed around 2.30pm towards roadside and the students from a close by school who were passing by were trapped inside. One of the student expired and two were still in critical condition. One more kid and two elders sustained also sustained injuries in the incident but they are out of danger”, said a BMC officer.

Late on Tuesday evening, the Shivaji Nagar police was in process of registering a case against the private contractor. “We are registering a case under section 304 (A) of the IPC (causing death by negligence). We are carrying out further investigations and will make an arrest soon,” a police official said.
