LUCKNOW: Eighteen days after Kunda DSP Zia-ul-Haq was shot dead, his widow Parveen Azad joined the UP police as an officer on special duty (OSD), a post offered to her on compassionate grounds by the state government.
“Parveen joined the office of the Director General of Police as an OSD on Monday,” IG (law and order) R K Vishwakarma said on Tuesday.
Asked whether Haq’s brother would also get a job as demanded by Parveen, Vishwakarma said he would join in Gorakhpur, but didn’t give details. Earlier, Parveen had declined the job offer, insisting that she be appointed in the same rank as that of her slain husband.
Haq was shot dead when he rushed to Ballipur village in Pratapgarh after the local village pradhan Nanhe Yadav was killed following a land dispute. Parveen had accused Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias ‘Raja Bhaiya’ of being the brain behind her husband’s murder after which the Kunda MLA resigned from the state cabinet. The CBI, which is probing the killing, has booked five persons including Raja Bhaiya in the case and arrested two suspects so far.
