New Delhi/Lucknow: Violence and tension gripped parts of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday as three persons were killed and 19 others, including policemen, injured after clashes broke out between two communities over a land dispute in Saharanpur.
This is the first communal flare-up after the BJP took charge at the Centre.
Even as curfew has been clamped in the area, incidents of sporadic violence were being reported. Eighteen companies of additional forces, eight PAC, six CRPF, two RAF and two ITBP have already been deployed in the troubled areas.
Home minister Rajnath Singh spoke to UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav to take stock of the situation.
