Sri Lankan man to serve prison term for who defaulting maintenance payment to ex-wife
Colombo: An individual, who was ordered by the court to pay maintenance for his wife and children, was delivered a 33-year jail sentence on charges of defaulting payment continuously and contempt of Court.
Chandima Edirimanne , the Additional Magistrate cum Additional District Judge, Anuradhapura, imposed the sentence against the suspect, HM Gnanasekera, residing at Baseline Road , Colombo 09.
The suspect had been married to a woman of the Thalakolawewa Kallanchiya Division, and later she had filed a maintenance case against the suspect in the Anuradhapura Courts.
The court after trying the case had given an order that the plaintiff should be paid maintenance.
The suspect had been defaulting payment from time to time, and the total arrears due as maintenance had risen to Rs 222,000 [Dh6,464].
