Mangalore, Sep 14: In another major breakthrough in busting gold smuggling, the officers of customs at Mangalore International Airport, During rummaging of the Jet Airways flight No 9W531 that arrived from Dubai at 8.45 am, on Sunday September 14 recovered and seized 1166.700 grams of gold worth over Rs. 31.73, lac.
The said gold was found concealed in two packets wrapped with black insulation tapes by way of affixing the same behind the mirror of the rear toilet of the said aircraft flight.
Each of the said packets was found to contain five gold tola bars/biscuits in them totaling to ten gold tola bars/biscuits weighing 1166.7 grams, valued at Rs 31,73,424.
This is the second major seizure at Mangalore International Airport involving more than one kg gold efected by the officers of Mangalore customs during the last one week. Further investigations in the case is under progress.
