Byndoor, September 22: An Anganvady teacher was assaulted by a child’s parents over on a petty issue alleging bias in distributing sweet-meat post lunch in the afternoon.
It is gathered that, he incident occurred on Friday September 20th at Yaderi anganvadi in Kalthodu village. The assaulters abused the teacher, assaulted and threatened her.
The victim is Suchitra Shetty- Anganvadi teacher. The residents of Kalthodu; Jalajakshi Shedthi and Deepika Shetty, entered into the anganvadi and assaulted the teacher who was on her duty alleging she had biased their child among other children. Anganvadi helper immediately rushed to Suchitra’s help and refrained the assaulters.
The injured teacher has been admitted to a hospital in Kundapur.
A plaint has been lodged at Byndoor police station.
Here follows the Statement:
There are 14 children in anganvadi. As per department-rules 10 gms of sweets given to the children in the afternoon. Since the Chikki (sweet-meet made using ground-nuts and Jaggery/sugar syrup) comes in 15gms packets, we divide the chikki in to 100gms each and distribute it among children. Sometimes, there is a chance that chikkis break in too many pieces. This was not an intentional act. We look after these children like our own siblings, narrated Suchitra Shetty, the victim teacher.
Philomena Fernandes, the president of Kundapur anganvadi workers association, visited Byndoor police station.
Speaking to the media she said, there is no protection for anganvadi workers. She has condemned the assault on anganvadi teacher and requested to take proper action against the accused. She also warned of a huge protest by district anganvadi workers association.
Padmavathy Shetty Vice President, zonal overseer Shashikala, Laxmi Nayak and many other anganvadi workers were present.
