Mangalore, September 23: Under the banner of Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), students from various colleges protested on Tuesday September 23rd in Mangalore in the office premises of Commissioner of Police, Mangalore against uploading filthy photos of college girls by logging into social networking sites via fake accounts.
The protest rally was held from Besant Women’s College to commissioner’s office.
On addressing the protest, the district organizing secretary of ABVP Lavin Kotian said that, “This is a strategy to defame the girls by misusing their photos. Such incidents pose a threat to the future of students and they may even discontinue their studies.
“Cases of kidnapping, sexual assault, going missing, and love Jihad has been increasing in the coastal region. The police department should immediately arrest the social evils who created the account and misused the photos of girls and should book them under a non-bailable offence,” he demanded.
He warned that, “The police authorities should immediately arrest the culprits or else ABVP will intensify its protests”.
Taluk convener of ABVP Sudith Shetty, said, “Perverts are misusing photos of girls by creating Facebook accounts with filthy names. Though a complaint has been filed, no action has been taken even after five days. Crimes against women are increasing rapidly. The police department should be swift in probing into the matter and arrest the culprits.”
Jayesh P K, city secretary also commented that despite the complaint being lodged, the Cops have failed to take action.
A memorandum was also submitted by the students to the Police commissioner of the city, R Hithendra.
Few days ago, a plaint had been lodged at Barke police station in connection with the issue. Photos with nasty remarks had been updated on a fake account on Facebook few days ago which were later taken down.
Mangalore cyber crime branch police are investigating the case.
