Mangalore, October 13: The district monthly meet of the SC-ST was organised by the DK district police department at the district SP office auditorium on Sunday, October 12th.
Presiding over the meet, the district SP Dr D.S.Sharanappa said, concerned to the harassment on Dalits; they need not compromise on any case and can file a plaint at the station.
Witnessess is needed for the harassment cases of the Dalits. If the witnesses are genuine, the accused can be punished. SP Dr D.S.Sharanappa opined that, in most of the cases, the plaintiff is withdrawing the case in compromise and hence drawing back.
The Dalit leader queried about the “term” published in the news paper which was not supposed to be used. Responding to this, the police officer Rahul said, pertaining to this case, “There is a stay order from the high court, a awareness program will be organised on the awareness of the terms which is not supposed to be used”.
Raghu demanded the Police department and the Social welfare department to jointly create awareness regarding the “Ajalu system”.
The Dalit leader Gopal Kadumatha urged the police department to visit Dalit colony, Schools, and Hostels to inspect the drawbacks and instruct the concerned departments accordingly.
