Kundapur, October 16: The cuttlefish and shark fishing in Gangolli area was banned by the department of fisheries on Wednesday, October 15th.
The ban is imposed immediately. 8 anchored boats and 2 visiting boats were told to leave immediately.
The boat managers were informed to present a written document stating that they would not engage fishing in the area. These boats beared registration from the neighbouring states.
It is learnt that, since the announcement, no outside fishing boats were spotted in the vicinity of Gangolli area from which it is apparent that the message has reached the intended people.
These boats from other states were mainly engaged in the fishing of cuttlefish and shark which had ruined the local prospects. Similar ban was imposed in Malpe long ago.
