Nineth “Chavadi” programme of Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy celebrated at Mangalore.

Mangalore, October 15:  The Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy unleashed a compilation of 10 renowned Tulu plays in its office here on Wednesday October 15th during the 9th ‘Chavadi’ programme.

 President of Tulu Theatre Artistes Federation Kishore D Shetty, and veteran play writer as well as film producer, Dr Sanjeeva Dandakeri unleashed the compilation.

Speaking on this occasion, Dr Dandakeri said, “In order to preserve Tulu plays, they should be printed and published in the form of books. Books help to preserve the contribution of the writer and will reach everyone.

He also said, “Sixty years ago, Tulu plays were not allowed to be performed in educational institutions and religious places because the humour in it was considered vulgar. This led to the exclusion of families and people did not attend the staging of plays. In later years, Tulu drama became modified; people accepted the change and began supporting the trend. In the contemporary scenario, plays are giving a message as well as providing entertainment,”.

During this ceremony, felicitations were given on behalf of the Academy to Tulu teachers Frank Hilary D’Souza, headmaster, and Dinesh R Shettigar, Tulu teacher in Pompei School.

In this occasion, M Janaki Brahmavar, president of Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy, and Koppala Mohan Kadri were present.
