Mangalore, October 23: A renaissance was observed at Kudroli Shree Gokarnanatha Temple on October 23rd. Today, along with four women priests more than 1000 widows offered pooja at the Temple on the eve of Diwali.
Former union minister B. Janardhana Poojary, stepped for a renaissance in our society. Today morning at 10am widow women priests offered pooja to idols of Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Vishnu which was placed in silver chariot. Later, this silver chariot was drawn by the widows around the Temple. Along with them other women too participated in this pooja.
Former union minister Janardhana Poojary speaking on the occasion said, all such reformation measures are being undertaken in the temple according to the ideals of Shree Narayana Guru.
He also pointed out that, a change in the society was brought about by recently appointing two women priestesses from the Dalith community. Today thousands of widows are permitted to participate in the pooja ceremony. It is to ensure that widows need not remain neglected but ought to be active and join mainstream of society.
A saree, blouse piece, kum kum, flowers and 1 rupee coin as were given to all the participants as prasadam on behalf of the temple. Breakfast and lunch was also provided to all who were present at the venue.
During this auspicious occasion, MLA JR Lobo, HS Sairam, Mayor Mahabala Maarla, corporator Naveen D’souza, President of temple management committee, vice president Raghavendra Kuloor, Dr BG Suvarna, Mahesh Chandra, Ravishankar Mijar, Harikrishna Bantwal, Shekar Poojary, Leelaksha Karkera, Kallige Taranath Shetty and others were present.
