Mangalore, October 30: The ’Hanv Konkani – Global Survey’is conducted by Jagotik Konkanni Songhotton (JKS) to trace the pros and cons of Konkani language and culture.
Secretary General, JKS, Gurikar, Eric Ozario, revealed that, the survey is to be conducted among Konkanis of every region, religion dialect and script, around the globe. He said, the initial launch was held in Goa last week, and will continue till January2015 covering all Konkani speaking regions. A comprehensive questionnaire will be circulated among Konkanis. The department of Statistics, Mangalore University will analyse data collected scientifically and based on it, the “Konkani Language Plan” will be implemented.
Louis J. Pinto, Treasurer, JKS observed that with the noble intention of taking Konkani forward and to make every Konkani person inclusive and the organisation/ institution to suitably direct all activities, energies and resources towards this goal, JKS is in the process of drafting the Konkani Language Plan.
K. Utharan, Vice President (India), JKS, said the process involves, assessing the strengths and weaknesses of Konkani language and culture.
Member of Steering Committee, Ravishankar Rao, said that Global Survey was the first step. The Global Conclave that assembled in August this year, has constituted a Steering Committee to guide and oversee this mammoth task – the Konkani Language Plan will also be the basis of the Konkani Language Policy that will be prepared and submitted to concerned governments for implementation.
Eric said in six regions such as Mumbai, Goa, Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, Malnad area and Kerala there will be field workers and field workers will attempt to reach the last Konkani.
