DC A.B Ibrahim orders to inspect 6 sensitive villages in western range.

Mangalore, October 31: The deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district AB Ibrahim has ordered to conduct the first phase inspection of the six sensitive villages in Western Ghats of Dakshina Kannada district and submit a report.

The DC chaired a district level meeting, at the auditorium of his office on Thursday, October 30th. He instructed to carry out the survey within next one week at Bilinele, Charmadi, Rekhya,Balpa, Sampaje, Golitottu villages and submit a report.

Kasturi Rangan led a high-level working group has recognised a total of 46 villages in Dakshina Kannada district, as environmentally sensitive area, and has submitted a report, said the Conservator Of Forests Dr Hanumanthappa KT.

He said, as per the instructions of the National Committee if there are more than 20 per cent of natural forests in the environmentally sensitive area, such areas will be marked suitable for environmentally sensitive area.

In the environmentally sensitive area, quarrying, sand mining and thermal power projects will be strictly banned. Hydroelectric power, wind power, production will be permitted based on discretion.

Special grants can be provided by the central government and planning commission to the development of the environmentally sensitive areas. The local administration has an opportunity to collect special tax as well, he said.

Joint Director of Agriculture Department Kempe Gowda, Horticulture Department Deputy Director Yogesh HR, DK Zilla Panchayat Project Director Manjunath were present.
