Mangaluru, November 11: During the late hours on Monday, November, 10th a mild steel water pipeline burst opened, under the fly over at Kottara Chowk junction. This resulted in waste of gallons of litres of water.
This mild steel water pipeline is capable of transporting 80 MLD/18 million gallon per day.
Sheena Mulya, assistant engineer Mangalore City Corporation who spoke to the media said, “The pipeline laid in 1971 was too old and repaired many times. As it could not withstand the pressure of water flow, it burst opened”. “The water gate wall in Bendurwell and near Tumbe will remain closed until the problem is sorted out to stop water outburst.
Tomorrow water supply will be cut off to Panambur, Surathkal, Bykampady, Kodikal, Malemar, Katipalla areas, he informed.
This pipeline used to carry water from Tumbe dam to Panambur area. Because of the water outburst, electricity supply was temporally cut-off in some areas of Kottara.
It is likely that, some part of Mangaluru will face water scarcity on Tuesday, November 11th.
The public who gathered at the spot, tried to stop the water flow.
