Mangaluru, November 11: T.B. Jayachandra, State Minister for law and Parliamentary Affairs addressed a press meet at the District Congress office in Mangalore on Tuesday, November 11th during his visit to Mangaluru.
He said that hearing of 1296 cases relating to sexual assaults and murders are pending in the state which will be disposed within a year and justice will be granted to the victims.
Conversing with reporters the minister said, out of the total 1577 cases booked under POSCO act, 281 cases have been disposed.
He revealed that, fast track courts have been set up to deal especially the cases of sexual assaults to ensure stringent punishment to the guilty.
Speaking about the irregularities in Mujrai temples, he said measures are taken to check it.
B Ramanatha Rai, District in-charge Minister who also spoke, while referring to the Thirthahalli case and the clamour raised by the BJP, said the very same party did not protest when Sowjanya was raped and murdered during the BJP regime in the state.
MLC Ivan D’Souza, Kodijal Ibrahim, Interim President of District Congress, Kavitha, Deputy Mayor, former mayor Shashidhar Hegde, Kallige Tharanath Shetty, Kripa Alva, Hilda Alva and others were present on this occasion.
