Mangaluru : A book titled ‘A Doyen & Icon of Automobile Industry – V.S. Kudva – His Life & Times’ authored by Rtn. M.V. Mallya, published by The Canara Foundation, in English & Kannada, will be released by the Chancellor of Nitte University Dr. N. Vinay Hegde at a function scheduled to be held on 27.11.2014 at Hotel Ocean Pearl, Mangalore. General Manager, Syndicate Bank, H.O., Manipal Ln. K.T. Rai will be the Guest of Honour. Rotary Past Dist Governor Rtn. Dr. B. Devdas Rai will deliver the Introductory Address. The book contains 250 pages with 16 pages colour photographs.

Late V.S. Kudva was a pioneer in the Print Media (Navabharath 1941) and also the Icon of Automobile Industry who placed Mangalore City on the Industrial Map of India during the Pre-Independence Era.

A multifaceted personality, Mr. Kudva was the Founder Director of Syndicate Bank (1925), Managing Director of C.P.C. Co. Ltd (1939 – 1967), Founder Editor of Navabharath Kannada Daily (1941 – 1967), Managing Director of Canara Workshops Ltd (1943 – 1967) and Founder of Canara Group of Companies. He was the Founder of Board School, Mulki (1934) and prime donor of land to Vijaya College, Mulki (1963). He was also the Charter President of First Rotary Club of Mangalore (1950), Hon. President, Kanara Chamber of Commerce & Industry (1947-1950), Founder President, South Kanara Transport Operators Assn, Founder President, South Kanara Small Scale Industries Assn. He also introduced Automobile Technical Training Course in the year 1940 at Mangalore in the absence of any technical institutions in Mangalore during that period.

Late Kudva by virtue of his vast technical skill and knowledge converted adversities into opportunities. He strived very hard for the economic, commercial, industrial and educational development of the district. He passed away in 1967, but has left behind his giant footsteps through a vast legacy, immense goodwill and constructive memories. His achievements continue to inspire us even today.
