Mangalore, May 16: Addressing the meeting of MCC officials at Mangala Sabhangana on the MCC building premises N Prakash, DC directed all officials of Mangalore city corporation to speed up all pending works launched in the past three months before the commencement of rain, which are in incomplete state due to assembly elections and warned of strict action against those contractors who do not take up works in time.
MCC Superintendent Engineer B S Balakrishna informed the meeting that a task force of ten teams has been formed to take up urgent works ahead of the rainy season. The MCC has already spent Rs 71 lakh to clean drains in MCC limits.
He further explained that the task force team will share five wards each while working on a 24-hour basis. There will be two additional teams to work the nights during rainy season.
There are 12 works pending in the first phase of Rs 100 crore released from the state government, while Rs 15.4 crore has been released in the second phase. The second phase o funds will be spent for constructing footpaths and drainage works in MCC limits, he added.
MCC commissioner Harish Kumar K said that the revenue collection under self assessment scheme has not reached expected levels.Whereas, there is a need to check the drawbacks in collection of tax under the scheme, he added.
He also said that Rs 20 lakh has been earmarked to develop a park reserved for women.MCC engineers and other officials were present at the meeting.
