Kundapur, November 28: Trivial issue erupted fight between youth belonging to two different communities on Thursday night November 27th at Melgangolli within the limits of Gangolli gram panchayat.
It is reported that a member of one of these groups, named Hanif, was injured and admitted to the government hospital in the town.
Raghavendra Pai, a Gangolli-based journalist, who had visited the spot to gather information, was beaten up. His bike was also damaged by some miscreants.
The rival between the two communities was waiting for an out-burst at Gangolli, which is known as communally sensitive area. Fight erupted between the two groups over a trivial issue on Thursday, November 27th at 10 pm. A gang of youth had lobbed soda bottles at the opposite group. When the other gang was proceeding to challenge the opposing gang and question the gang members about the incident, police intervened and stopped the situation from worsening.
B Raghavendra Pai, a local journalist, went to the spot to gather information about the situation. He was stopped by one of the gangs. Even as he wanted to know why he was being intercepted, the gang began hitting the motorbike, damaging its front portion completely. Raghavendra was also assaulted, as a result of which he fell down. He suffered injury to his hand. Some members form the gang tried to stop other members from attacking Raghavendra. The police have taken over possession of the motorbike for investigation purposes.
It is said that some youth belonging to a community were returning to Gangolli after attending a night program. Meanwhile, youths from other community tossed soda bottles at them in Melgangolli. As the gang was moving in motorbikes, they did not suffer any damages. The youth then questioned the gang responsible for throwing the bottles. As the situation was worsening due to exchange of words, Raghavendra Pai reached the spot to gather reports, and was assaulted.
Related to the incident, two persons from a community have filed police complaint against the attackers. The other group also filed a counter complaint, and one of its members is admitted at government hospital in Kundapur. A person named Naveen has filed a complaint stating that, a gang of about 40 members including Hanif and Iliyas had attacked him and his friends. Hanif filed a counter complaint. The injured journalist also filed a complaint about the incident.
Byndoor circle inspector Sudarshan, Kundapur circle inspector P M Diwakar, local police sub-inspector, have visited the spot and undertaken investigations. Additional police were deployed in the area and tight security has been put in place.
