Mangaluru, December 15: “Vishwa Tuluvere Parba-2014” the three-day event at Adyar, outskirts of Mangaluru drew curtains on Sunday December 14th.

Sri Vishweshatirtha Swamiji of Pejawar Math delivered his speech during the culmination ceremony and said, “Great personalities have emerged from Tulunadu. Madhwacharya has written many scriptures in Tulu. Tulu language is an ancient language; we should preserve our culture, language, and this land. Culture and traditions will continue only if the language is preserved.

About Yettinahole project, he said, “The project must be studied thoroughly it should not causing water shortage here. The citizens of Tulunadu should not suffer”.

The seer said, god is not only present in temples, but he can be found in nature too. Hence we should devote nature and treat it as god. When the industries are built in this land, it must be taken care that the industrial activities does not effect the land,river and agricultural activities here.

Dr Veerendra Heggade, presided over the program, and said, “Kannada is our mother that has nurtured us. From the ages of Muddanna to Jnapita awardee Shivaram Karanth, Tulunadu has contributed a lot to the field of kannada literature. Poet Rathnakaravarni was from Moodbidri. Tuluvas working in various fields are striving to preserve the language and culture of this land”.

On this occasion Harish Sherigar sang a famous Tulu song and enthralled the audience. He is also renowned for his awesome voice who has sung in various programmes organized in the country and abroad. This renowned Tycoon of Dubai is also famed for rendering charity. Harish Sherigar who is renowned for singing in various languages such as Kannada, Hindi, Tamil, and other languages presented a Tulu song for the audience at “Vishwa Tuluvere Praba” and drew the attention of all by his awesome tone.

The decisions taken at the gathering were read out on the occasion by A C Bhandary, convener of Vishwa Tuluvere Parba. A copy of it was sent to the state government through district in-charge minister Ramanath Rai. The following demands were made:

  • To include Tulu in the 8th schedule of the Constitution, measures should be taken to form a high level committee, comprising the main secretary.
  • Drop the Yettinahole (Nethravathy River diversion) project.
  • Permit a modified form of Kambala.
  • Tulu should be compulsorily introduced as the third language in primary and high school’s across Dakshina Kannada and Udupi.
  • To rename Mangaluru Airport as Tulunad International Airport and pass order to issue notices in Tulu language in all public places such as Airport, railway stations etc.
