Mangalore, May 19: According to the available data there seems to be nearly 180 km of major drains within the jurisdiction of MCC. For the smooth flow of rain water during monsoon, the process of cleaning various drains has already begun in different parts of the city.
Cleaning process of over 59 km at the cost of Rs 70.7 lakh at yekkur and Jappinamogaru is in progress and N Praksh, DC has reviewed the progress of the work and directed the officials concerned to expedite the work as early as possible so that there should not be any hindrance for the smooth flow of rain water.
Addressing the media personnel, Harish, MCC commissioner said in his speech that there are 37 mainstream drains admeasuring 180 km long and 1.5 m in height.
Further he said that apart from utilizing the service of manpower for a few places where the machines cannot reach, 17 machines are also in use, he added.
MCC officials like K M Jayaprakash, Rajeshekar, Ninjegowda, Ganapathy and among others were present.
