Mangaluru, January 7: Veera Rani Abbakka Award-2015 and Rani Abbakka Award – 2015 will be conferred on renowned KannadaTulu writer and researcher Dr Indira Hegde and famous television and theatre artiste Vinni Fernandes respectively.
K Jayaram Shetty- Veera Rani Abbakka Utsava reception committee president announced this at a press conference here on Wednesday, January 7th and said that the awards would be presented at the valedictory ceremony of ‘Veera Rani Abbakka Utsava 2015’ scheduled to be held at the B A Preuniversity College premises at Thumbay, on January 24th and 25th.
The awards will be presented by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The award consists of a memento and cash Rs 20,000, he revealed.
Dr Indira Hegde hails from Kinnigoli. She has written many books such as novels, short stories
collection and works of research on sociocultural study of Bunt community. She has also received several awards for her contribution to literature and research, Jayaram said.
Vinni Fernandes hails from Kulshekar. She has played various roles in cine films, television serials and plays in Tulu, Kannada, Konkani, and Beary languages.She has acted in acclaimed Kannada films such as Haseena, Nayi Neralu and Gulabi Talkies apart from several other movies, reveled Jayaram.
The advisory committee chaired by Dr Amrutha Someshwara has chosen the recipients for the awards.
Bhaskar Rai Kukkevalli- General secretary, Dinakar Ullal- working president of the committee,
Chandrahas Rai- nodal officer among others were present during the press conference.
