Mangaluru, January 16: Health minister U T Khadar during a press meet organized in the city on Friday January 16th has informed that, with a view to eradicate polio, the pulse polio campaign is organized in the state on January 18th and February 22nd which aims to cover 75 lakh children below five years of age.
Khadar has revealed that, on March 27th, 2013, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared India as polio-free and to continue the work with the same intension, pulse polio campaign will be organised in the state.
He further revealed that 32,628 booths with 51,558 teams are set up all over the state. There will be 1,03,440 volunteers and 4,619 supervisors, and 923 transport teams. Along with this 2,162 transit teams have been formed to provide vaccinations at bus stations, railway stations and airports across the state. He said, over 25,000 migrant labourers are working in high risk areas and arrangements have been done to vaccinate their children.
He said, the pulse polio campaign will be inaugurated on January 18th in the city at Lady Goschen hospital and vaccinations will be given at all health centres.
Khader also said, the volunteers will visit door to door to publicize the information.
