Solid waste management project of Mangalore City Corporation, inaugurated in Mangaluru.

Mangaluru, January 23: Urban development minister Vinay Kumar Sorake inaugurated the solid waste management project of Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) on Friday January 23rd, at Karavali Utsav ground in the city.

Vinay Kumar speaking on this occasion said, “Mangaluru is the first city to get solid waste management project which is implemented as on a pilot basis. The government has sanctioned Rs 999 crore under KUDCEMP-1. People suffer from different ailments because of the garbage. We intend to make Mangaluru free from malaria. In KUDCEMP-2 Rs 288 crore will be sanctioned for Mangaluru” he added.

The garbage can be used it to prepare manure and gas. He said, already Rs 23 crore under SFC scheme, and Rs 2.5 crore for graveyard and park development has been sanctioned.

The state government has sanctioned Rs 4.97 crore for Kadri Deer Park development, as per the request of Mangaluru South MLA J R Lobo, he informed.

J R Lobo delivering his talk said, “Mangalore City Corporation has taken a bold step to implement waste management project even though the corporation does not have a good financial condition”. He lauded the mayor and all the council members initiating this bold step towards the interest of the public.

MLA Mohiuddin Bawa, during his speech said, “I request the minister to sanction more funds for my constituency, which earns high revenue for the city corporation as companies like MCF have their plants in my constituency”.

Mayor Mahabala Maarla speaking on this occasion thanked the minister for providing extra grants for the city. It is the responsibility of each one of us to make this project successful. I request the minister to give clearance for development of markets in Mangaluru”, he said.

The other dignitaries present on the dais were, Former mayor Shashidar Hegde, MCC commissioner Hephsiba Rani Korlapati, deputy mayor Kavita, corporator Jacintha Alfred, MCC opposition leader Premananda Shetty, Dr Harish Kumar, and Jose Jacob, MD of Mumbai-based Anthony waste management company.
