Mangaluru, April 15: Pertained to the sexual assault case of a three-and-a-half-year-old child which took place at Chembugudde under Ullal police station limits, on Tuesday April 14th, the forum for Justice for Baby Nirbhaya said that it would hold a strong protest after April 30th, if action was not taken against Mangalore One School under POCSO Act.

A LKG student of Mangalore One School, was sexually assaulted allegedly by her school’s van driver Madhukar on March 13th and soon after he was arrested.
Renni D’Souza, social activist, addressing a press meet in the city on Tuesday said, although the mother of the victim has requested in her complaint to book the school authority under POCSO Act, no actions were initiated against the school till date. Moreover, the case has been transferred from Ullal police station to Pandeshwar women’s police station. This move of the police department has paved way for suspicions.

He further said, the school administration committee president and the convener of the school are retired police officers and it is suspected that efforts may be made to close the case.

He also added that the committee appointed by the DC has prepared a hurried report and no action has been taken against the school administration against their irresponsibility.

Forum has urged the police department to provide maximum punishment to the accused under POCSO Act and the district administration and public education department should also take suitable action under the Child Protection Act.

Social activist Vidya Dinakar said, Pandeshwar women police station inspector Kalavathi who is the investigation officer in this case was also the investigation officer in the sexual harassment case against the retired ACP Jagannath, who is the convener of the school.

The investigation officer plays a key role in providing justice to the victim. Either the Police Commissioner should ensure strict and unbiased inquiry into this case or the investigation officer should be changed for this case, said Vidya Dinakar.
