Proposal sent to the government to electrify remote villages in Dakshina Kannada under DDUGJY scheme: MP Nalin Kumar Kateel

Mangaluru, August 1: MP Nalin Kumar Kateel chaired a meet at the DC office to discuss on the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyothi Yojana (DDUGJY) at the DC office here on Saturday, August 1st.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said, under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyothi Yojana (DDUGJY), a detailed report of Rs 405.66 crore has been submitted to the union government for approval which includes electrification of the remote villages in Mangaluru rural, Belthangady, Bantwal, Puttur and Sullia.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel directed the officials to install solar panels at the deputy commissioner’s office and zilla panchayat building and also to request the building owners to install solar panels in their buildings, taking the help of Mangalore City Corporation.

Under the Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS), for stationing 12 power substations, a detailed report for the Rs 68.13 crore project has already been sent to the union government, said MP Nalin.

MP Nalin also directed for solar facilities in remote places like Banjaru Male, Malavanthige, Kutloor, Eleneeru where people are facing problems due to lack of power supply.

MESCOM officials said that in Dakshina Kannada district 3,800 houses belonging to BPL families have no power supply and these houses will be covered under DDUGJY. The MP also asked for this service to be extended to APL card holders who do not have power supply.

During the meet, MLA J R Lobo asked the officials of MESCOM to lay underground electric cable for the entire city. Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim asked the officials to carry on the work in three phases.

Zilla panchayat CEO Srividya said that Sullia and Beltangady taluks have electricity problem.

MESCOM officials also said that proposal has been sent to the union government to include three substations at Guthigar, Sampaje and Jalsoor in Sullia and at Suraya, Kayarthadka and Haleangady; under the IPDS project.
