Arundhathi Subramaniam to deliver Endowment Lecture on Poetry on Aug 22nd

Mangaluru, August 12: Renowned Poet and Novelist Arundhathi Subramaniam, will arrive in Mangalore on August 22nd, for an Endowment Lecture on Poetry. She will be delivering the lecture on the title ‘Give me a Home, that isn’t mine’at 5:30 pm at Gallerie Orchid, KS Rao Road, Hampankatta, here.

Kavita Trust, which works for the promotion of Konkani poetry will hold its annual James and Shobha Mendonca endowment lecture on poetry in Mangalore on Saturday, August 22nd.

The lecture occupies important position in the many programmes of the Kavita Trust. It is popular among poets and literary circles. The last three years have seen Kavita Trust playing host to renowned poets like Gulzar, Ashok Vajpayee and Jerry Pinto.

Poet Arundhathi Subramaniam is known for her writing on cultural and spiritual aspects. She is the recipient of Kushwant Singh Memorial Poetry Award, besides being awarded with Raza Poetry Award and International Piero Bigongiari Prize. She has four poetry and two essay collections to her credit in addition to being part of other poetry and essay collections. Her works are translated into several languages throughout the world. She got nominated for TS Eliot Prize for her “ When God is a Traveller”.  Her two works -‘The Book of the Budha’ and ‘More Than a Life’ – are popular published works.

She has participated in poetry and literary sessions in UK, Italy, Spain, Holland, Turkey, China, West Africa and Israel. She has received Charles Wallace Fellowship, The Visiting Art Fellowship for Poetry Tour of the UK and Homi Bhabha Fellowship.

About Kavita Trust:

Founded in the year 2002, Kavita Trust is a registered Trust working to popularise poetry, with a particular focus on Konkani Poetry. The Trust takes up number of projects to promote poetry. Spreading its wings in Konkani region, it has brought different dialects of Konkani under one fold by being the platform for poetic expression. The James and Shobha Mendonca Endowment Lecture on Poetry is an annual programme and this year is its fourth edition. The programme will be an occasion to interact with distinguished poets. In 2012, the well-known Hindi poet and lyricist Gulzar, in 2013 renowned Hindi poet and critic Ashok Vajpeyi and in 2014 Jerry Pinto, a renowned poet and novelist delivered this lecture.
