Kasargod, August 24: A couple expired and over 18 persons were injured in an accident between a bus and a car at Mavungal near Kanhangad on the evening of Sunday August 23rd.
Suresh Babu (39) and his wife Sudhamani (35), residents of Vellarikundu are the deceased. Their son Gopinath (12) sustained serious injuries and has been admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru.
The accident took between a bus plying from Panathur to Kanhangad collided with the car that Suresh Babu was driving from Kanhangad towards Vellarikundu.
Over 17 passengers in the bus were also injured. The injured have been admitted to various hospitals.
Bus driver Ravi, passengers namely Abdul Hameed of Kumble, Preeti, Beena James, Udaya, Ashok, Baby, Radhika, Rajani and Shaji are among the 17 injured. Among the injured, bus driver Ravi is critically injured and has been shifted to a hospital in Mangaluru.
Suresh Babu had served as a soldier in the Border Security Force (BSF) and had recently retired from service. His wife Sudhamani was employed in the customer service department of a private bank.
A case has been registered in Hosadurg police station.
