Yettinahole Project will make the land barren: Former union minister Janardhan Poojary

Mangaluru, August 29: Former union minister and Senior Congress leader Janardhan Poojary on Saturday August 29th, in a press meet at the district Congress office here criticized the Yettinahole project and said it would cause great harm to the district and also make the farming land barren.

Poojary said, important river of this district is Netravati and diverting its rivulets will harm the main river. Such river diversion experiments have been done in other parts of the country and also in abroad which have failed, he said.

He further said, there are various institutions, medical colleges, and hospitals in the district. What may be the situation if water not provided to them.  Farmers will come to the streets, hydroelectricity generation will get affected and there will be power shortage. The entire fertile land will dry up. Without thinking properly, this decision has been taken, said Poojary.

Mangaluru is going to develop as a Smart City, industries will come up in this place and population will raise. But we may not be able to provide adequate water, he said.

About the recent Attavar assault incident in which a man was, tied to a pole and assaulted by a group he said, queried who has given them the right to strip and assault and person? He said, the police commissioner has done a good job by arresting the accused. Commissioner should also identify the actual persons behind this incident and take severe action against them, he said.

In the press meet, Former Mayor Mahabala Marla, Corporator Deepak Poojary, congress leaders Harikrishna Bantwal, T K Sudheer and others were present.
