Kundapur, September 07: From the past two-three months, illegal cattle trafficking and cattle theft have increased and the department has to cheque this operation.
Although various precautionary measures and many special police teams have been formed in Udupi district to curb this menace, but still the problems continues which has made the people anxious.
Cattle stolen from Cow shed:
From the cases of cattle theft which were reported from Byndoor, Gangolli, Kolluru, Shanrakanaraayna, Amasebailu and Kundapur police jurisdictions, it is apparent that the cattle were directly stolen from cattle sheds. From the recent cattle theft incidents, it is also noticed that the cattle which were left to graze were also stolen.
In addition, the incidents in which the miscreants were caught in the day while they were involved in cattle thefts have caused anxiety among the locals, farmers, and people involved in animal husbandry.
Cattle theft has widely taken place at Kodi, Kandlur, Kota, Gangolli, Hakladi, Byndoor including other places of Kundapur district.
It is also learnt that the cattle thieves transport cattle in inhumane way. It is said, the cattle thieves majorly use Maruti Omni vehicle to transport the cattle. As the place is congested inside the vehicles, the cattle get injured or some cattle die during the transportation.
The police department has given appropriate directions to special teams formed to curb this menace. It has also been directed to go on rounds during night. Already in many spots of the district, along with employing security measures, check posts have also been opened. Warning has also been issued against the cattle theft.
In order to curb the illegal cattle theft, over 20 check posts have been opened in various areas and the police personnel’s discharging duty there are provided the arms and amenities. There are reports that the accused in a bid to escape have attacked on the police personnel’s too. In case the cattle thieves attack on the police personnel’s, appropriate actions will be taken for life safety, informed Udupi SP K Annamalai to the news media.
