Mangaluru, September 07: A gigantic model resembling that of arch was found while levelling the land for construction of KSRTC bus stand which is located behind the famous Shree Chandika Parameshwari Temple in B C Road.
The police on receiving the information visited the spot on Saturday and stopped the ongoing works on the spot.
The brick is about 1.5 feet tall, 3 inches thick and 24 inches wide. The bricks were found to be arranged in a definite pattern.
Inspection by experts: Soon after receiving the information, president of Rani Abbakka Tulu Study Centre- Prof Tukaram Poojary, HOD Department of History, SVS College, Bantwal; arrived at the spot and inspected. He opined that before the usage of laterite rocks, construction were carried out using burnt bricks.
It might be a 500 year old construction related to the temple. Now we are seeing construction of just one side. On systematic and careful excavation we may be clearly able to learn more about it, he said.
As per another source, at about a distance of half furlongs from the present spot, a tiles factory was constructed about 100 years ago which was operational till 1970. From this factory tiles were supplied to Mangalore and other areas. Suspicions were also expressed that whether the structure is the remains of this.
