Mangaluru, October 14: The unscientific and illegal speed breakers (Humps) that are put up in the city must be cleared to ease the free flow of traffic. In addition, the humps must be painted and indication boards must be erected, ordered Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim to the MCC officials.

DC passed this direction after opposition was expressed over the problems encountered by the vehicle users over the unscientific speed breakers at the road safety meeting held at the auditorium of DC office here.  Many potholes have appeared in the main streets of the city, creating problems for the vehicular movement alleged the auto rickshaw drivers.

DC Ibrahim in response directed the MCC to give special attention to the spoilt roads and undertake immediate repair works. On the complaint that although the MCC was directed in the last meeting to construct total of 35 bus shelters in main areas of the city, no measures in this regard has been taken yet. For this, the DC directed the MCC commissioner to take suitable measures.

There were complaints that in the pretext of road extension and development, the auto-rickshaw stands were cleared off and no alternate arrangements were made and as a result, the auto-rickshaw drivers are facing problems.

For this the MCC officer said, it has been decided in the standing committee meet to construct auto-rickshaw parks in 199 places by the MCC.

There were also complaints regarding the usage of ticketing machines in city buses that, apart from city bus route number 27, ticketing machines were not used in any of the city buses. DC directed the regional transport officer to verify this within a week and file cases against those buses that does not have ticketing machine.
