Media Release:

Mangaluru, October 27: In response to a telephonic complaint received this afternoon about a smell emanating from the marshy area that belongs to MRPL, a team of MRPL Officials rushed to the spot along with villagers of Jokatte and Environment Officer KSPCB.

While the immediate suspicion was that it was caused by a high-tide backflow and subsequent ebbing during low-tide, MRPL Team was able to trace the leak to a CRWS tank inside MRPL that stores dirty rainwater.

Immediate action has been taken to stem the leak and a High level committee has been constituted to enquire into the matter. Action has been initiated against a senior officer of the company pending enquiry said Director Refinery, M.Venkatesh. “MRPL is committed to Safety & Environment and our systems and processes support Safety& Environment. We will not tolerate any lapses in this regard”, he said.
