Mangalore, July 12: Addressing the press reporters in the press meet held at city on July 11, Thursday Devdas, state Convener, Karnataka Dalit Sangharsh samiti said in his address that as a result of commercial complex building’s compound wall collapse on June 16, at Thottilaguri,near Bajpe, many people lost their lives and many have rendered homeless in the tragedy. Besides there are still many families living in the area with danger of fear.
All the affected families of victims of compound wall collapse must be adequately compensated and provide justice to the affected families of the victims, samiti urges DC office.
Devidas, further said that there were 18 families which includes scheduled caste, scheduled tribes and backward classes, have been living for the past several years in the area. Now owner of the commercial complex building constructed the building illegally by encroaching the land, resulting in the collapse of wall of the compound on the houses of Smt Leela and Shri Shekar on June 16th, leaving four people dead at the spot and remaining five people had been admitted in the Wenlock hospital.
Samiti also submitted a memorandum demanding compensation of Rs 5 lac instead of one lac, which was announced earlier to the families of victims of tragedy, people who have been admitted in the hospital for treatment must be adequately compensated. Shankar, who already lost his parents in the tragedy, also lost his sister now.
Therefore Samiti urged the government to respond precisely and with great responsibility in providing justice to the families of the victims.
