Udupi: The entire Bailekere village in Malpe was in tears when John Vikram Martis body landed in his own soil. Vikram was one of the victim of the bomb in Kabul in Afghanistan. The mortal remains of John Vikram Martis, had arrived at the Bajpe Airport here this morning, July 12.
John Vikram Martis (36) B.Com graduate, and a bachelor survived by his mother Jessy Martis and two elder brothers Jerome Vijay Martis and Vinod Joseph Martis. Vikram was working as a full time employee in Afghanistan from past 18 months.
Speaking to the media persons Jerome Vijay Martis (Vikram’s elder brother) said that on July 2, there was a bomb blast at around 4.30 in the office. It is a vehicle dispose bomb.
“I worked in a same company from past 7 years where as Vikram joined 18 months back, I am a corporate finance employee. I frequently travel. He was a contract and full time employee”.
He added that he was in Egypt when the tragedy took place. The Company notified him immediately. “How the incident took place only Vikram could explain but he is no more”.
He also added that the Indian Embassy cooperated very well. “I am thankful to Jitendra Sodi who was an attache apache over there & because of him we could get the body within 10 days”.
He too thanked the local politicians who helped them. “I am grateful to Oscar Fernandez and Ministry of External Affairs”.
I would continue working with the Company as I am happy with them. We don’t need further investigation in this case. and we don’t even want any compensation. At this point we are not for the money.
The body was laid to rest at around 4.30 pm amidst huge gathering of mourners after the mass prayers at St. Agnes Church in Thottam.
