Bantwal, December 14: The Bantwal rural police arrested six persons among the seven accused in connection to the murder attempt on rowdy-sheeter Haneef alias Mada Haneef that took place in Maripalla near Farangipet in the taluk and presented them before the judge.
The accused are identified as Khalandar Shafi, Anwar Sahid, both residents of Sujeeru; Siddique, resident of Maripalla; Arath, and Nasir Hussain both from Thumbe; and Imran resident of Adyar. They have been said to be detained under judicial custody till December 26th.
Another accused car driver Samshuddin is absconding. After committing the crime, the attackers group had absconded. The next day after the murder attempt, police found the car used for the crime that was abandoned near a garage in Ganadapadpu in BC Road and also two machetes used for the crime inside the car. The rural police gathered information about the car and then gathered information about the accused.
Based on these details, police arrested six accused. One more accused has absconded.
Mada Haneef, who was imprisoned and sent to Belagavi jail in connection to the murder case of auto driver Mohammed Rifayi that took place on June 21st– 2014; had recently come out from prison.
The accused in retaliation to the murder of Rifayi attacked on Haneef and attempted to murder him, said the police sources.
Old rivalry is the reason behind the attempt to murder. After arresting car driver Samshuddin, more details might be available, said Bantwal inspector K U Belliappa.
