Mangaluru, December 22: An incident that has come to light very late in which a major mishap was averted by the presence of mind and timely action of station master in Padil. The incident had taken place on the evening of Sunday December 20th.

The station master in Padil station through his timely action, managed to stop the City Junction-Mumbai CST super-fast train and New Delhi (Nizamuddin)-Thiruvananthapuram super fast train that were moving on the same tracks in opposite direction.

It is learnt, first; a request was sent to Padil station for green signal to CST train from Mangalore Junction station. Padil station official gave line clearance after contacting Thokur station. But at that time, six more compartments had to be attached to the train. After this work got over, the train had faced some technical snags.

Meanwhile, as the train coming from Nizamuddin sought signal, the line clear signal of CST train was cancelled and Nizamuddin train was allowed to move ahead from the direction of Thokur. The officials at Padil station could not convey the message to city Junction station that line clearance CST train had been cancelled. Hence, CST train moved ahead on the basis of clearance obtained sometime back.

Padil station master, who learnt that two trains moving on opposite directions were on the same track, immediately conveyed information to the engine drivers of the two trains over walkie-talkie, after which the trains were stopped.

Due to this incident train movement was effected for about 90 minutes.
