Udupi; Sarva Shikshana Abhiyan and Lobour Department, found around 1016 labors working with 14 contractors, which includes more than 40 children who were dropped their education because of various reasons. The children were between 6-14 years. Though they are not working, they are with their parents.
The Education Department said that 20 children were confirmed their ages further we have asked MAHE University and the contracted to give proper information about the age and their mother tongue.
They also appealed the contractors to provide basic facilities to the children. Further Sarva Shikshana Abhiyan will be provided temporary basic education in their mother tongue for 6 months and join them to the nearby schools.
Prabhaka, Project Director district child labour project society said that we received a complaint 2 days back that Child Labour was going on at MAHI University Premises , but when we inspected that place we came to know that it was not child labour but around 40 drop out children were there so with Sarva Shikshana Abhiyan we put an effort to educate them.
DDPI Nagendra Madhyastha said that we are working on the strategy how to provide them with education.
