Mangalore, July 15: It was reported in the city on July 15, Monday that Gangadhar, a native of Padubidri and reporter with Doordarshan, Mangalore has murdered his wife, Mamata Shetty, aged 32 at his sister’s house at J B Road, Kodikal.
The police have taken Gangadhar, husband of deceased to custody for interrogation and he confessed to the crime, it said.
Speaking to the reporters DCP Dharmaiah said that as per the family sources couple had a misunderstanding and used to have frequent fight for trivial issues. It was learnt that couple had fought even today afternoon and Gangadhar in a fit of rage said to have strangled her with shawl.
The body was found in the middle room of the house and injury marks on her neck indicated that she was strangled.
Gangadhar and Mamatha got married three years ago and it was a love marriage.Mamatha was an assistant professor at SDM Law College. It was also said that as Mamatha was an orphan, Gangadhar had supported her education and as Gangadhar’s sister lives in Bangalore, the couple were staying at her house.
Sources also said that because of the frequent quarrels between the couple, they had even approached the police once.
Urwa police have registered a case in this regard.
