Plans are on to set up Pharma park in DK district: Health Minister U.T. Khader.

Mangaluru, December 25: Plans are on to set up Pharma park in Dakshina Kannada district, informed State Health and Family welfare minister, U T Khader.

The minister in a meeting held to discuss on setting up of pharma park in DK district said that, a minimum land of 100 acres of land is required for pharma parks in which pharmaceutical companies can open their units. For this purpose, land can be taken of 170 acres of land that is available at Kanara Industrial Area at Mudipu for the purpose, he expressed.

Minister Khader said pertaining to this matter, he had met the union minister, Anant Kumar, and that the minister had agreed for the proposal. The central government would meet the grant needed for setting up of the park and that the state would forward the proposal for the park if the district administration submits the same, he said.

Minister said, pharma parks do no cause much damage to the environment. Along with developing Mudipu industrial area, it will provide employment to about 200 people. Infrastructure development for the purpose would have to be undertaken by karnataka Industrial Area Development Board, he said.

Khader has asked the district administration to identify land for for pharma park and send a proposal.

During the meet, DK district Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim, special land acquisition officer of KIADB- Dase Gowda, Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry president- Rammohan Pai Maroor, and Gaurav Hegde of Kanara Small Scale Industries Association were present.
