Movement of heavy vehicles during dense traffic hours restricted.

Mangaluru, December 30: In order to ease the vehicular traffic congestion; on experimental basis, the district administration has proposed to restrict entry of heavy vehicles during heavy traffic hours in the morning and the evening on national highway stretches passing through the city jurisdictions. From December 31st onwards, this proposed step would be introduced.

City police commissioner S Murugan addressed the media representatives here on Tuesday December 29th, and said that on experimental basis, it is proposed to stop the heavy vehicles from entering into the city on the outskirts in both National Highways- 66 and 75 for half an hour in the morning and again in the evening. Specific spots would be identified for the purpose at Suratkal and Kotekar on National Highway-66 and at Kannur on national highway 75 to park the heavy vehicles, he said.

The police will stop the heavy vehicles during dense traffic hours for half an hour, and once the time restrictions get over, these vehicles would be allowed to move forward, he informed.

Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district, A.B Ibrahim said that, on experimental basis this move is being initiated. On the basis of advantages and problems encountered during this exercise, the future decisions on traffic movement will be taken. Such kind of system is already implemented at Bengaluru and various other cities, he said.
