Mangalore, July 17: DC N prakash has launched the state wide programme of distributing folic and iron supplements to students in the district at Government higher primary school, Attavar on July 17, Wednesday.
Addressing the media reporters DC said in his address that children cannot concentrate, focus on their studies due to the deficiency of iron contents in their blood. He suggested health and family welfare and education department officials to implement strictly, this ambitious project of government of distribution of iron rich tablets scheme.
Chief Guest of the function Smt Asha Thimmappa Gowda, President Zilla panchayat and Shikshana Sthaayee samithi has directed the teaching staff to ensure all the children take the tablets in the school only without allowing them to take home.
Dr Rukmini, zilla RCH administrator said in her speech that in order to improve the iron contents in the blood of children, tablets must be consumed for 52 weeks at the rate of one tablets per week. She further said that these tablets are not only a treatment for the disease but also anti-disease programme, she added.
Besides, she also said that iron tablets will be distributed to 1,11,887 students of Government and aided schools in the district from 6th to 10th standard students under the leadership of U T Khader,minister for health and family welfare.

Moses Jayashekar, deputy director, Zilla Vidhyanga, Dr Ramakrishna Rao, Zilla health and family welfare official were present on the occasion.
