Kasargod,July 18: It has been reported in Kasargod that unidentified assailants who came in their bike fired gun shots at the house of Mohammed Kunhi Haji, a PWD contractor at Bevinje,near Kasargod.
Sources said that the incident took place at around 5.15 am in the morning, when the Mohammed Kunhi along with his son Arafat have gone to mosque for the Morning Prayer. On hearing the sound of the gun shots, Kunhi’s wife and mother-in-law raised an alarm for help, forcing the assailants to flee from the scene.
It was learnt that one of the bullets smashed the window pane in the sit-out area and hit the wall and luckily no one was hurt. An eyewitness said that the culprits escaped through inner road heading towards Cherkala and took their heels sensing the danger, when women inside the house raised an alarm.
Sources also said that this is not the first time that the PWD contractor’s house has been attacked. On June 25, 2010, miscreants had fired several rounds of bullets on the house and fled. It was learnt that underworld don Ravi Poojary aides are suspected to be behind the attack.
A team led by district police chief Thomson Jose is gathering more information and the special crime branch team has taken up the investigation. Forensic experts also inspected the spot.
