Udupi, Jul 26: A senior photographer Astro Mohan, who works in Kannada daily, has won three prizes at the Indian International Photographic Council contest, which was organised on the occasion of the World Photography Day, according the source.
His photograph titled ‘Udupi’ won the second place in the photo travel category and the photo titled ‘Kitchen’ won the third place in the monochrome section while the photograph captioned ‘bike stunt’ won a merit certificate in the photojournalism category. The award function will be held at Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh on August 19.
About Astro Mohan
Astro Mohan is an internationally renowned photographer with over 20 years experience in photojournalism and is currently working as a senior news photographer at the national Kannada daily newspaper Udayavani published from Manipal.
He hails from Bellary and completed his early education as an art graduate. An incredibly versatile person with a rare blend of multiple talents, Mohan is also a magician, astrologer, palmist, orator, cine actor, artiste, art critic and to top it all, a prudent organiser of shows. It was his keen interest in astrology that earned him the nickname ‘Astro’. He has earned over two dozen state and national awards in the past. His photographe titled ‘Karavali Kambala’ bagged the first prize at an international-level photography competition, held by Nikon in the United Kingdom. He has travelled and exhibited his photographs worldwide and has also been felicitated by various photography associations and recently honoured by the India International Photographic Council (IIPC) in Hyderabad. Astro Mohan believes in sharing knowledge, he also teaches at various universities and has conducted various photography workshops over the last decade. He is a distinguished member of the Photography Society of America (PSA); the managing committee member of Karnataka Photographers Association (KPA) and Udupi Press Photographers Association (UPPA).
