MANGALORE: Mangalore city police have arrested six persons – said to be associates of self-proclaimed underworld don Vicky Shetty- in connection with a life bid on a city-based entrepreneur VijayendraBhat in the city on August 2. The accused had hatched a conspiracy to eliminate Bhat in what police state is an attempted revenge killing for the entrepreneur’s alleged role in financing the murder of a history sheeter Bejai Raja.
Those arrested are Deekshith Poojary, 25, Sathish, 28, and Rithesh, 28, all from Soorinje; Padmaraj, 29, of Bejai Barebail,, Keshava, 24 of Someshwar, and Anil, 30, of Someshwar. Police have recovered a revolver, two live cartridges and a motorcycle used by the accused in this incident. Two motorcycle-borne miscreants had attempted to gun down Vijayendra Bhat, 39, proprietor of Sudheendra Industries when he was on his way to his friend’s eatery.
Miscreants fired on Vijayendra while he was travelling in his SUV from Mannagudda to Ballalbagh. The pillion rider of the bike fired at Vijayendra, but the bullet hit on the frame of the door of the moving car. Though window pane was broken into pieces, Vijayendra escaped without any injuries. Vijayendra, a resident of VT Road in the city said that he had received a threatening call from a person who identified himself as Vicky Shetty on July 29.
Vijayendra had told reporters that he had received threatening call from the same person on an earlier occasion too and that he had complained to the commissioner of police about such threatening calls. Incidentally, the miscreants during their attempt to flee in the motorcycle had knocked down another two-wheeler driven by Nagaraj, an employee of SIM Technology, Mannagudda. The assailants managed to lift their bike and fled from spot.
