MANGALORE: The third JMFC on Friday took the statement of the girl who filed a case of rape against photojournalist Dayanand Kukkaje, in a closed door sitting.
Kukkaje was taken into custody by city police. He was picked up from his office on Wednesday, following a complaint from the girl. According to the complaint, Kukkaje allegedly raped her and later threatened to release images of the act if she revealed the incident to her family, friends or police. However, he was released on bail as police investigations did not yield any substantial leads.
Advocate Arun Bangera, who argued for Kukkaje, told TOI the complaint was not written by the girl. “The girl doesn’t know Kannada and it was not written by her. She’s told the investigation officer she has no complaint against Dayanand,” the advocate added.
